One of the most iconic cannabis cultivars of the past three decades, Blueberry stands as the progenitor of countless hybrids and the true origin of the modern “dessert” crazed cannabis movement.

 

Through careful selection throughout the 70’s and 80’s, the legendary DJ Short combined Afghani, Thai, and Mexican landrace genetics to create this singular masterpiece.  With its remarkably short flowering time, exotic lavender-blue buds, and unmistakable fruity-pastry fragrance, nothing else on the market came close to its unique appeal at the time. 

 

Tragically, over successive generations, Blueberry deteriorated dramatically.  Potency declined, vigour vanished, and most heartbreaking of all, the signature blueberry muffin aroma disappeared.  Sadly, the new Blueberry on offer from DJ Short is built from different parental lines and just doesn’t live up to the original.  Enter Lucky 13 Seed Company. 

 

In our fledgling years, we acquired several old and dusty packs of DJ Short’s Blueberry F2 from a Canadian seed bank. Most seeds were no longer viable, yet we successfully germinated enough to select outstanding males and females, including several plants exhibiting the sought after blueberry muffin phenotype.  An open pollination was conducted producing close to a thousand seeds that were set aside for a rainy day.  

 

That rainy day came nearly two decades later when we realized Blueberry wasn’t going to make a comeback without some serious intervention.  It became obvious that if we wanted something to be done right, we were going to have to do it ourselves.  

 

What followed was an exhaustive, multi-year selection process. Hundreds of plants were grown under every conceivable condition: indoors and outdoors, organic and hydroponic, HPS and LED lighting.  Countless individuals were culled without mercy until only the elite remained and the blueberry muffin aroma prevailed.  After years of rigorous work we can proudly declare…Blueberry is back baby!
